Meet the latest sitters!
Our favorite babysitters have now moved on to motherhood and made room for a whole new trendy crew to takeover Stonybrook...and us moms LOVE the new squad! Meet the ladies who took the reigns and made room in Claud's revamped new room!
Introducing Netflix Season 1's new founders of the BSC:
Kristy Thomas played by Sophie Grace
Claudia Kishi played by Momona Tamada, who you may have seen in "To All the Boys: P.S. I Still Love You" as young Lara Jean Covey
Stacey McGill played by Shay Rudolph
Mary Anne Spier played by Malia Baker
Dawn Schafer played by Xochiti Gomez
The world has changed a lot since the BSC books were first published back in '86, we did just survive a global pandemic in 2020, but the essentials are clear - childcare is a top priority and the trending topics brought up in each episode were right on time!
As a mom of two boys, I am very transparent. I never shy away from a tough topic and use every opportunity to raise awareness, so I was pleasantly surprised to see issues such as divorce, illness, racism, gender and my all-time favorite reference...The Terrific Two!! I mean, Tan France is my FAVORITE QE so the girls nailed their attempt to a full daddy makeover!
Here is a list of topics our friends at POP SUGAR feel you should talk with your children about:
Blending families
Getting your first period
Lying to your parents and friends
Being an LGBTQ+ ally
Racism
Gender roles
Bullying
Standing up for what you believe in
Navigating health issues and advocating for yourself
Coping with medical emergencies and illness
Death of a parent
Moving and making new friends
Starting a business
Being independent
Finances and spending money
Asking for and accepting help from others
Speaking to your friends about something that upset you
Being open and honest with your parents
Taking care of your body
Dealing with stress and anxiety
Letting go of things you can't control
Divorce
All valuable conversations when discussed with a trusted parent or guardian and we encourage you to consider it.
Some of the other trending items are...drumroll...BABY-SITTER MERCHANDISE! How could we ever live down the thought of us having the oh-so-iconic see-through phone? Here are a few items we love and must have before season 2!
And, for the super fan...the iconic vintage clear telephone!
The 1980s Unisonic Land Line Home Phone with see through skeleton Babysitters Club Phone Bell South!
According to Newsweek, "To promote the show, Netflix has set up the number as an official Baby-Sitters Club line. All fans of the show have to do to reach it is to call 203-456-9090, alongside the dialing codes for your country.
Writing on Instagram, cast member Momona Tamada revealed what fans who called the number could expect. The Claudia actor wrote: "Have you called the Baby-Sitters Club yet? The phone lines are now open at 203-456-9090. Take the quiz to find out which BSC member you're most like and tag me in your results! P.S. Standard data and/or mobile rates may apply."
Lots to process but I'm here for the series, the show, the new characters and for what's to come!
I'll always hold the 1995 original cast high, I mean, I did try to form my own BSC but that fell short when my mom made it perfectly clear that my friends and I could hardly microwave a hot pocket. Nevertheless, I did babysit for our town's DJ a few times. That ended quickly because his daughter had a tamagotchi pet that died during my watch...so that was a fail! However, mom life has allowed me to pump all of my energy into my two boys and although I can't really share the drama over the latests episodes, I can use the signature "Sitter Box" to entertain them!
